In 2019, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Gorilla Highlands, an initiative that uses tourism as a tool for economic and social development in Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. Unlike most companies in the tourism industry that only focus on advertising well-known tours, their mission is larger: promoting the entire “Gorilla Highlands” area in a way that encourages responsible, sustainable, and culturally sensitive tourism.

We met while they were launching a new edition of their famous Pocket Guide, a booklet full of useful information distributed across the three countries. I quickly became part of their team, and while working with them, I had fun experiences and took great pictures. I also experienced firsthand the amazing work they are doing, and I can honestly say it’s awesome. I was able to meet locals, learn from them, have fun, and gain a much more enriching experience.

My pictures became part of the Pocket Guide, and Gorilla Highlands became a place I can’t wait to go back to.
